Due to injuries, the return of Juan Francisco Gallo It took Estrada much longer than expected. Now, after more than a year and a half since his last fight, the Sonoran takes up the gloves to expose the World Boxing Council super flyweight world title against the American Jesse Bam Rodríguez, but also to show that he is still valid at 34 years of age.

At the weigh-in, the first test before this Saturday’s duel at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Estrada appeared in good physical condition, recovered from injuries to meet the 115 pounds (52,163 kilograms) required by this division. However, doubts still remain after an unusual pause in boxing.

“After my last victory against Roman Little chocolate González took a good rest, I was able to spend quality time with my family and my children, in addition to healing an injury that I was suffering from,” he said since the fight with Rodríguez was announced.

Estrada’s most recent duel was in December 2022, when he defeated the ChocolateAlthough he retained the monarch’s belt on that occasion, the battle damage was more difficult to heal than expected.

Gallo Estrada had come up to fight on that occasion with discomfort from a previous injury to his left hand suffered when he faced Argie Cortés, while he was still dealing with the consequences of a broken nose. The fighter’s health status was revealed by his trainer Alfredo Caballero months after the fight with González.

Now, Estrada, who is one of the few to have won the flyweight and super-flyweight titles, intends to maintain his status as world champion when the shadow of retirement also looms over him. Even though the tricolor boasts a record of 44 victories and only three defeats, the challenge seems complex.

The Challenger Bam Rodriguez is 10 years younger, is at the peak of his career and is undefeated after 19 fights. He has also already won the flyweight title and now aims to emulate Estrada as a double champion with the super flyweight belt.

Estrada will not be the only Mexican who will fight today in Phoenix, as Adrian Kitten Curiel also returns to the ring to face the British Sunny Edwards after losing the International Boxing Federation light flyweight title in February.
