The Euro 2024 round of 16 draw is finally complete. Georgia reached the round of 16 of the European Championship after a surprising 2-0 win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in Group F.

The rookie Caucasian team needed a win to reach the knockout stage and found the opening goal after just 93 seconds. Georges Mikautadze intercepted a bad pass and set up Napoli player Khvicha Kvaratskelia to score with a low shot.

Portuguese António Silva then tripped Luka Lochoshvili inside the penalty area. The referee blew the penalty and Georges Mikautadze took the corner, past Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa, in the 57th minute to make it 2-0.

Cristiano Ronaldo kicked a water bottle away when he was substituted in the 66th minute. Georgia’s victory also eliminated Hungary, who finished third in Group A.

In the other Group F match, Turkey beat the Czech Republic 2-1, while the Czechs were eliminated.

Cenk Tosun scored in injury time to send Turkey to the knockout stages of Euro 2024 with a 2-1 win over the 10-man Czech team.

Czech captain Tomas Soucek equalized in the 66th minute by canceling out Hakan Calhanoglu’s opening goal, but it wasn’t enough to keep his team in the tournament. Midfielder Antonin Barak was sent off in the 20th minute for two fouls.

The Czech Republic finished last in Group F behind Georgia, while Turkey finished second with six points. Portugal also have six points, but are first ahead of Turkey on goal difference.

Group E: Romania takes first place followed by Belgium and Slovakia. Ukraine is out

In Group E, Romania and Slovakia earned a 1-1 draw that sent both teams to the last 16 of Euro 2024, with Romanians lead Group E ahead of Belgium.

During a thunderstorm and heavy rain midway through the second half, both teams searched for the winning goal in a frenetic match, although both teams were happy with a draw.

Romania topped the group with third-placed Slovakia as second-placed Belgium drew 0-0 with bottom-placed Ukraine, who were eliminated. Belgium will face France in the round of 16.

Slovakia took the lead in the 24th minute when Ondrej Duda sent a powerful header into the corner of the net. Răzvan Marin equalised in the 37th minute with a penalty awarded after two minutes of video review to decide whether Ianis Hagi had been tripped inside the box.

Romania will now play in the knockout round for the first time since Euro 2000, when Hagi’s father, the national football icon Gheorghe, was the captain with the number 10 shirt, now worn by his son.
