German U18 Judoka Prepare for European Championships in Sofia

In the past few months, since the German Championships at the beginning of March, the U18 judoka have fought in several European Cups, which count as a qualification criterion for the annual highlights. Next week, from June 27-30, 2024, the European Championships will take place in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

More than 500 participants from 44 nations are expected.

Many of the ten women and ten men nominated for the individual competitions are going into these European Championships with high expectations. In addition, Christian Wilhelm has been nominated for the mixed team in the heavyweight category.

In the class up to 48 kg Charlotte Nettesheim from JC 90 Frankfurt (Oder) (Brandenburg). She has won medals in all four European Cups and has big plans for the European Championships. “For me personally, the nomination for the European Championships obviously means a lot and my goal is definitely to get a placement and thus qualify for the World Championships.”

Also Constantine Distel from TB Wülfrath (North Rhine-Westphalia) has a similar record in the class up to 81 kg. He won three medals, gold and two silver medals. Also noteworthy Demetre Makalatiya from JC Samurai Offenbach (North Rhine-Westphalia), who won two gold medals or Carolin Scheida from JC Wermelskirchen (North Rhine-Westphalia) with gold and bronze in the class up to 40 kg.

But it is not only the athletes who will be on the European Championship mat. The European Referee Commission nominated Kerstin Doetsch for the Cadet European Championships. This means that German referees are now taking part in the fourth continental championships this year, after the European Championships for men and women, veterans and police. “The Federal Referee Commission is delighted with this award for Kerstin and wishes her every success in the championship,” says DJB Referee Representative Stephan Bode, sending his best wishes.
