German U18 Mixed Team Wins Bronze at European Championships in Sofia

On the final day, the German U18 mixed team won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Sofia (Bulgaria).

After a 4-0 opening victory against the host team from Bulgaria, the DJB judoka met France in the quarter-finals. Sara-Tamar Wolsfeld from JC 71 Düsseldorf and the European Championship third-place finisher Konstantin Distel from JC 66 Bottrop had scored against Bulgaria. They almost managed to pull off a surprise against France. After victories by Demetre Makalatiya (Offenbach), Sveyarike Konrad from TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Konstantin Distel, the DJB team was already leading 3-0, but then had to accept a 3-3 draw. Jan Libuda from Sportunion Annen lost the deciding match, meaning France moved into the semi-finals and later secured the European Championship title with a 4-3 win against Turkey.

The German team fought its way through the consolation round and defeated Ukraine 4:3, Lithuania 4:1 and the Netherlands 4:2 in the battle for bronze. Sara-Tamar Wolsfeld was able to score three more victories. Konstantin Distel won against Lithuania and the Netherlands.

Poland won the second bronze medal with a 4-2 victory against Georgia.
