Goalkeeper Jindřich Staňko to Undergo Operation and Long Recovery: A Blow for Slavia Prague and the National Team

The goalkeeper of the national football team and Slavia Prague, Jindřich Staňko, will undergo an operation and a long recovery.

Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a dislocation of the right shoulder joint and damaged ligaments. Prague’s Slavia announced the result of the examination on the club’s website. The 28-year-old goalkeeper was injured in the last match of the national team at the European Championship in Germany against Turkey.

In the match against the Turks, Stanek brilliantly blocked Kenan Yildiz’s shot and then raised his hand in vain to signal that he had a health problem.

The game continued and Hakan Calhanoglu took advantage of his injury to open the scoring. Staněk could no longer continue, the Turks eventually won 2:1 and sent the Czech Republic home from the championship.

“Right after hitting the grass, I felt it was going to be bad, my right arm was almost limp,” Staněk described.

“I’m sad about a lot of things. From my injury, from the fact that I had to substitute, he didn’t prevent that goal. And especially from our final position,” added the native of Strakonic.

He had problems with his shoulder before. “I don’t regret anything, representing has always been and is a great honor for me. I want to catch, win, at any cost, always and on any stage. In Slavia, in Naroďak. I will come back stronger, I already have experience with this type of injury. I know how proceed,” added the goalkeeper.

The number one goalkeeper in the national team now has to wait for the swelling to go down, then she will undergo surgery with her dislocated shoulder.

“Magnetic resonance showed a dislocation of the shoulder joint, Jindra suffered a Hill-Sachs defect. The so-called impression of the dorsolateral part of the head of the humerus (arm bone). After the swelling subsides, he will undergo surgery at the end of July, recovery will take between three and four months,” explained club doctor Petr Krejčí.

Slavia coach Jindřich Trpišovský called Staňka’s forced break a huge loss.

“Because within half a year, he has developed into one of the mainstays of the team. He performed brilliantly at the European Championship. We know that we have to cope with his absence,” said the red and white coach.

“We have a number of solutions from our own resources, such as Aleš Mandous or Ondrej Kolář, who have European experience, and Tonda Kinski, who returned from a loan. These guys will share the task of replacing Jindra during his recovery,” Trpišovský pointed out.

Since arriving from Pilsen in the winter, the national team goalkeeper has kept twelve league matches for Slavia and kept six clean sheets in them. He also defended the goal in both Europa League round of 16 matches against AC Milan.
