Golden State Warriors Eyeing Major Offseason Moves

The Golden State Warriors are looking to make a splash this offseason. After missing the playoffs for the third time in five years and losing momentum in the Western Conference, the Bay Area franchise has set out to significantly strengthen its roster and make the most of the last gasp of its dynasty.

Despite the continuity of Klay Thompson, who will turn to free agency without red lines, the Warriors have some balls in the chamber for what could happen in the coming days. According to journalist Marc Stein, San Francisco management does not lose sight of Paul George’s situation. “I’m pretty sure the Warriors are just as interested in George as the Knicks. Even more so,” wrote the Insider. In fact, the New Yorkers are emerging as another franchise potentially linked to the All-Star’s future.

Stein added that there is a “growing feeling” throughout the NBA that George will exercise his $48.8 million player option for next season and then increasingly likely pressure the Los Angeles Clippers to transfer it. And this is all after months of “unsuccessful” negotiations over a contract extension. The forward has until Saturday, one day before free agency begins, to decide whether or not to exercise his player option for next season.

The Warriors are “aggressively” exploring trade options, Stein added, with Chris Paul at the center of that effort. Golden State has until Friday to exercise or decline the veteran point guard’s $30 million team option for next season.
