Because it is a special edition and because of its ambitious goals, Granma wants to be a protagonist in the 60 National School Games (JEN), which will take place in various venues in the country, during the first fortnight of next July.

In fact, the 383 student-athletes arrive at the main Cuban sports festival with more than one objective, among which the most notable is to surpass fourth place in 2023 and, in the process, equal third place in the 53 (2017), 54 versions. Together with the group of specialists who accompany him, the manager points out that handball, artistic gymnastics, weight lifting, water polo, softball and triathlon will guide the performance.

“In these disciplines you aspire to first place,” he assures, before remembering that in the modern pentathlon the title of national champion was revalidated last April, in Villa Clara.

Others such as badminton, taekwondo and volleyball will fight for a position between the second and third rung.

He also announced that between 42 and 45 gold medals are predicted and, in that contribution, weightlifters, triathletes, gymnasts and athletics representatives should stand out.

Likewise, the province will organize school and youth taekwondo tournaments, school triathlon, and school softball and water polo, the latter in the women’s classification.

The taekwondo players will arrive at the Eide Pedro Batista Fonseca court in the city of Bayamo and the polo players will compete in the Olympic pool of the Sports Teaching Unit (UDD) of the Granma Fair Park.

Meanwhile, Manzanillo will host the triathletes, around the boardwalk, and the softball players, on the field of the UDD Alfredo Utset Bertot and the baseball player Orestes Gutiérrez.

There will be 15 days of intense battle with the youngest relay of Cuban sports, whose program includes 33 sports in the school competition and five other events for people with disabilities, in addition to youth competitions in 12 disciplines and chess, which will complete the pioneer calendar. .
