Grava wins the 13th place in the European Championship in the 200-meter sprint

In the semi-final, Grav had the best start reaction and the Latvian was one of the fastest in the first half of the distance, but he did not keep the pace. Grava was sixth in his semi-final with a time of 20.79 seconds, just one hundredth of a second off the personal best he set earlier in the preliminaries.

The winners of the first two places in the three semi-finals, as well as the owners of the two best results, qualified for the final. To achieve this, he had to run 200 meters in the semi-finals in 20.52 seconds, or only 0.11 seconds slower than the Latvian record held by Sergejs Inšakovs.

In the semi-final, Italian Filippo Tortu was the fastest, who completed half a lap of the stadium in 20.14 seconds.

In the preliminaries, Grav crossed the finish line first and only lost the lead at the end, finishing third in 20.78 seconds, nine hundredths of a second faster than his previous personal best. In this race, only the Czech Tomáš Nemejcs (20.54) and the 2017 world champion Ramil Guliyev of Turkey (20.66) beat him.

Grava qualified for the semi-finals with the seventh best result among 21 sprinters. The 12 fastest athletes of the three heats qualified for the semi-finals, with another 12 starting this phase thanks to their place in the ranking.

Latvia will be represented by 12 athletes in ten disciplines at the European Athletics Championship.

The European Championship will take place in Rome from June 7 to 12.
