Guatemala’s Olympic Team Grows to 14 Athletes: Meet the New Additions

IOC quotas

The classification of Erick Gordillo and Lucero Mejia, as well as Jacqueline Solis, in judo, are part of the Universality quotaswhich are a recourse route for athletes from underrepresented National Olympic Committees.

According to the International Olympic Committee’s website, these quotas are designed to increase the diversity of nations participating in the Olympic Games sports programme.

Universality Quotas are available as part of the qualification system for certain sports for nations that have traditionally had small delegations.
