The facilities of GEiEG in Sant Ponç will be the scene, next Thursday, June 27, of the second gala of the premis Athena. The awards, driven by the Girona newspaper with the sponsorship of Camps Motor – We Are Mobility and Grup Pous, the main collaboration of the Catalan Sports Council, Diputació de Girona, Balance and Aqua Brava, and the support of GEiEG and Munich, aim to value, make visible and reward the effort, talent and sporting achievements of the province, and its emerging athletes. Girona FC, due to its exceptional season, able to enthuse an entire province; the Spanish handball coach, Jordi Ribera; the brothers Petar and Jordi Cikusa, clubs such as Bisbal and Handbol Bordils, and the Oxfam Intermón Trailwalker are some of the fifteen finalists in the second edition of the Atenea awards.

There are five categories. Jana Montes (padel), Anna Salvat (Vila-sana hockey goalkeeper) and Pau Cubarsí, a footballer from Girona who made his debut with Barça’s first team and the national team at just 16 years old, are aspiring to the Augurium young promise award . For their part, EF Gironès Sàbat, Bisbal and Handbol Bordils opt for the Magister prize for the values ​​of a club, and Trailwalker, Girona and Futbol Base Vilobí do so in the category Plausus for sporting gesture. The Vitae award for long career will be contested, with three emblems of Girona sport: the basketball coach Carlos Surís (GEiEG), the Spanish handball coach, Jordi Ribera, and the founder of the Salt Gimnàstic Club, Montse Hugas. Finally, the brothers Petar and Jordi Cikusa, from Barça handball, the Valencia and Spanish basketball team player Queralt Casas, league and cup champion, and the CN Banyoles rowers Dennis Carracedo and Aleix Garcia, with tickets for the Games and European winners, they are the finalists in the category of the Melius prize for the best athlete.

The jury for the Atenea awards is made up of the president of Girona CH, Eduard Recio; the CEO of Basketball Girona, Stefi Batlle; the sports director of Uni, Laia Palau; Girona’s sporting director, Quique Cárcel; the president of the GEiEG, Francesc Cayuela, and the Editor-in-Chief of Diari de Girona, Jordi Roura. They will be in charge of choosing the winners from among the fifteen finalists.
