Heading to Chartres for the French BMX Trophy

This June 15 and 16, the French championship for young BMX riders will take place at the Jean-Gallet stadium in Chartres. More than 1,200 drivers are expected on the track.

Located one hour from Paris and 45 minutes from the Saint-Quentin en Yvelines velodrome, the venue which will host the track cycling events during the Olympic Games, the city of Chartres is receiving the Trophée de France. On June 15 and 16, more than 1,200 riders will compete in this French championship for young BMX riders in front of 5,000 spectators. “This competition will take place at the Jean Gallet sports complex, entirely privatized for the weekend, on our very fun track and particularly suitable for young riders,” notes Carole Viemont, president of C’Chartres BMX.

23 Chartres drivers in the running

Divided into 10 categories, the participants will challenge each other during qualifying heats and then in the final phase on a hilly track. In addition to the individual ranking, committees and clubs will also be rewarded at the end of the competition. “The Trophée de France is a major sporting event, organized three weeks before the passage of the Olympic flame in Chartres (July 7), which Jodie Viemont, Chartres pilot and relay runner at the BMX world championship in Glasgow in 2023 and Rockhill in the United States in May,” adds the president. As a reminder, BMX racing is one of the disciplines included in the Olympic program since the Beijing Games in 2008.

Among the young people involved, 23 of them come from the Chartres club. “This figure reflects the dynamism of the club over the past ten years, driven by the creation of a cycling school, with balance bikes and baby BMX from 3 years old, and our desire to bring riders to the top level,” underlines Carole Viemont.

Please note that in addition to the competition, the event will offer sporting activities to the public present. “Our club has the ambition to instill Olympic values ​​in this competition and to widely promote the influence of our territory with an entertainment village supported by local associations and partners who promote inclusion, health sport, disabled sport ”, indicates the president.
