The Heidenheim Heideköpfe clearly won game one against the Mainz Athletics. After nine innings at Mainzer Hartmühlenweg, the guests from Baden-Württemberg clearly beat the Rheinhessen team 10:2.

The Heideköpfe had already taken a two-run lead in the first inning after sac flies from Simon Gühring and Shawn Larry. The latter became the most prolific scorer on the visitors’ side with five RBI’s over the course of the match. In the sixth inning, the DH smashed the ball out of the ballpark for three runs.

The Mainz offense, however, never really got going. It wasn’t until the fifth inning that Peter Johannessen managed the first hit for the home team. It was Johannessen who scored the only two runs for the A’s two innings later with a 2-run homer, thus preventing a potential shutout.

Heidenheim’s starter on the mound, Christoph Ehrich, took the win in six innings. Aside from one hit, one walk was all Ehrich allowed. The pitcher versus batter duel ended in a strikeout seven times. Kevin Schnorbach (5IP, 6R, 3ER, 7BB, 4K) took the loss.
