Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers Fall Short in Roland Garros Semifinals

Horacio Zeballos from Mar del Plata and Catalan Marcel Granollers, who share number one in the men’s doubles world ranking, once again saw their dream of winning a Grand Slam trophy cut short: they fell this Friday in the semifinals of Roland Garros by 3-6, 6 -4 and 7-5 against the Salvadoran Marcelo Arévalo (13th) and the Croatian Mate Pavic (21st) and they said goodbye to the Parisian competition.

The Argentine-Spanish couple could not maintain their undefeated record of 12 games and the winners advanced to the final, where they will face the Italians Simone Bolelli (23rd) and Andrea Vavassori (20th), this Saturday from 11:15 a.m. the morning.

In this way, Granollers and Zeballos are still unable to win their first Grand Slam, after having reached the US Open final in 2019 and Wimbledon in 2021 and 2023.

The duo in question started at a very high level and took the first set after taking over the rival serve twice. However, he could not sustain his superiority – nor that of the papers, given the rankings on both sides – and fell in a very imprecise second round.

In the third, Arévalo and Pavic struck first, breaking Zeballos’ serve in the third game. However, the left-hander tied it 3-3 and got within reach, but gave up his serve again to end up falling 7-5.
