Framber Valdez did very well in seven innings and the Houston Astros defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8-1, earning their fifth straight win.
Jeremy Pena and Yainer Diaz each produced three runs.
“It was ‘Astros-style’ baseball,” manager Joe Espada said. This is what we expect. We have achieved a lot of good things. We needed a series like that.”
Valdez (6-5) allowed one run and six hits, striking out seven batters. He had been beaten in his last two starts.
He said that sweeping a club like the Orioles was very satisfying for the Astros, whose start to the season was tough (a 12-24 record on May 8).

Jose Altuve homered and Alex Bregman had a season-high four hits.

Albert Suarez (3-2) allowed four runs in the first and five total, along with 10 hits. He left after five innings.
It was only a second sweep suffered by Baltimore in 2024.
“We just have to forget about that game,” manager Brandon Hyde said. Not much worked. We just need to turn the page.”
