Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev was eliminated in the semifinals of the grass court tournament in Halle, Westphalia.

The German number one had to admit defeat to the Polish top ten player Hubert Hurkacz 6:7 (2:7), 4:6 on Saturday and thus missed the longed-for home victory in the Wimbledon preparation. After 1:35 hours, the match was decided in favor of the serve specialist Hurkacz. Zverev must now wait for his third final and his first title in Halle, having been defeated in the finals in 2016 and 2017.

Hurkacz, who won in Halle in 2022, will play for the title on Sunday (2 p.m.) against Jannik Sinner or the Chinese Zhang Zhizhen. The second semi-final in Halle begins on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. So if Sinner advances to the final, he could face his good friend Hurkacz.

Zverev was unable to break the serve of former Wimbledon semi-finalist Hurkacz. In the first set, the Hamburg player was the more stable player until the tiebreak, but then missed the chance to win the set at the crucial moment. A lack of concentration on the only break point against him cost Zverev the loss of serve at the start of the second set, making it 1:2. Zverev was then unable to create another break chance.
