The Spanish cyclist Oier Lazkano (Movistar Team) acknowledged that it is “very special” to be able to face his first Tour de France, which starts this Saturday in Florence (Italy) and to which he arrives “strong and confident” after his good performance in the Criterium Dauphiné Liberé.
“A Tour is always a Tour and it’s very special to be here. I’m very grateful and looking forward to a few weeks. We’re coming with a good team and we want to do well,” Lazkano said on Friday at a press conference in Florence, the scene of the start of the ‘Grande Boucle’ on Saturday.
The Vitorian comes from having “a great race” in the Dauphiné, where he showed a great level in the mountains. “It only confirms what we already knew, that we had done a great job at altitude and that we were coming strong. The work is still good and we are coming strong and confident to the Tour, nothing more,” he stressed.
In any case, he made it clear that he is, “far from it”, yet to “make the overall” of the French round. “My mind is on the Tour and I don’t know what I can do in two or three years,” concluded Lazkano, who believes that with Enric Mas “the objective is clear” in the race.

For his part, the Colombian Fernando Gaviria claimed to feel “a little better legs” than in the last Giro d’Italia to fight for victories in the finishes of the race where there will be “very strong trains”, not only the Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin- Deceuninck). “I’m pretty calm about that and now we’ll wait to see what happens. On Monday we have a first appointment with the sprint and see what happens,” he warned.
