The IES La Orden subsidiary also passes the first phase with flying colors. In their case it is the First Division (second national category) and they reach the quarterfinals after finishing in fourth place during the regular championship. Two victories in the three matches played yesterday, on the last day, had a lot to do with that brilliant classification. Now another subsidiary awaits them, CB Veleta B, an affordable team that they will face next Saturday in the first leg, and on February 20, in the return leg.
Before that, IES La Orden B had to overcome the obstacle of the last day, in which it had to achieve at least one victory to ensure its classification for the second phase. In Saturday’s match against CB Triana from Seville he did not play too well but he did move with enough courage and determination to obtain a final 4-3 that gave him his objective.
Of special value was Belén Rodríguez’s victory against Triana’s corner player, Ana Mª Aja, by 21-19/21-8, which unbalanced the match in favor of Huelva, since until that moment the scoreboard reflected a 3-3 draw with Huelva’s victory in the mixed doubles, by Andrea Márquez and Adrián Márquez; in the men’s doubles, by David Domínguez and Adrián Márquez; and in the men’s individual 2, by Pablo Domínguez; all in two sets.
In the first match on Sunday, IES La Orden B defeated the Universidad de Donostia by 5 games to 2, with victories in the three doubles matches (Andrea Márquez and Adrián Márquez, in the mixed; Andrea Márquez and Belén Rodríguez, in the women’s ; and Adrián Márquez and David Domínguez, in the men’s event) and in two of the individual events, again by Belén Rodríguez and Pablo Domínguez.
With this victory, the team ensured being among the top five in the standings and all that remained was to beat Casablanca to achieve, at least, third place. But things did not work out as well in the third and final match of the day, and Casablanca de Cádiz won 6 games to 1.
IES La Orden could only win the men’s doubles by David Domínguez and Adrián Márquez, against Alejandro Aguilar and Luis Calvo. The other match that was close to victory was that of Salvador Gómez in the men’s singles 2, but the defeat in three sets occurred against Alejandro Aguilar.
Now, the IES La Orden B team must prepare for the quarterfinals against CB Veleta B, in which the chances of overcoming the tie are high.
