IES Padre Luis Coloma Launches Pickleball Club in Jerez

The IES Padre Luis Coloma inaugurated its first Pickleball club in Jerez last week, an initiative with which it aims to establish this sport within the usual practice in its facilities. Pickleball is a paddle sport (or racquet sport) that combines elements of tennispaddle tennis, badminton and table tennis, in which two or four players hit a ball over a net, seeking to score points and win sets.

Within this event, attended by the Sports delegate of the City Council, José Ángel Aparicio, and the director of the institute, Moisés García, the Founding Act of the CLUB PICKLEBALL COLOMA. Next, the families of the students with their sons and daughters, the teachers and other guests were able to learn about this sport that is causing a sensation in the United States with more than 50 million practitioners.

This modality is a kind of padel but no walls on a court the size of Badminton. This makes it a cheaper sport to implement and that is why this public center, one of the most historic in Andalusia, has been able to make 4 outdoor courts and one indoor track in the Gym.

In this Open Day, some students from the Institute acted as monitors for the guests and explained the basic rules of this sport. Teachers, fathers, mothers and students played together in pairs in what turned out to be a pleasant afternoon of coexistence, the first of many that this Institute intends to carry out not only for its Educational Community but also for the city of Jerez, considering that, Who more, who less, has had a family member, father, mother, grandfather who has studied at this historic Institute.
