Iga Swiatek after her demonstration in the 8th round at Roland-Garros: “I always said that we had to start the matches a little earlier”

“How do you feel after a one-sided match like this (6-0, 6-0 victory against Anastasia Potapova)?
We feel good ! We just continue in the same direction because technically there is nothing to change. I was just focused on winning the next point, I don’t look at what’s happening before in the match, that’s probably why I was so effective. I was solid, and I didn’t concede any points unnecessarily (zero unforced errors), I was disciplined and I was just able to follow my tactics.

When you win matches so early and so quickly (players entry at 11 a.m., end of match at 11:56 a.m., 40 minutes of play), what is your plan for the rest of the day? Are you planning to retrain?
We have training time tomorrow (Monday) so no, I don’t feel the need. It’s not like I’m playing a match tomorrow. But even usually I don’t play again after a match. It may have happened once or twice but today, no need. I was happy to have been able to rest after the match against Naomi (Osaka, Wednesday, 7-6 [1]1-6, 7-5), because a three-hour meeting, you feel it for several days, but physically I was ready today.

Novak Djokovic played until 3 a.m. this Sunday, is it a problem for you that the matches finish so late? Do you think there should be a time limit?
It’s not easy to play at these times, especially since we don’t sleep an hour after the match. Usually it takes us 3 or 4 hours to come down, recover, talk to the press… It’s not like it’s all over by match point. I always said that we had to start the matches a little earlier. But it’s not us, the players, who decide. We just have to accept the program. »
