Due to fatigue, Iga Swiatek, world No. 1, announced her withdrawal from the Berlin tournament. The Pole will make her return for Wimbledon on July 1.

After winning the last three tournaments in which she took part (Madrid, Rome and Roland-Garros), Iga Swiatek continues to soar above the competition, having notably become the third player to win three consecutive titles at Roland-Garros, the first since Justine Henin between 2005 and 2007. Undefeated since April 25, Iga Swiatek will finally start her grass season later than planned. The 23-year-old player announced that she will not participate in the next tournament planned in Germany, that of Berlin (WTA 500), because of fatigue caused by a busy season. “Due to general physical and mental fatigue after nine intense weeks, I unfortunately have to withdraw from the Berlin tournament to rest and recover,” she said in the announcement making her withdrawal from the tournament official. After winning the Roland-Garros final against Jasmine Paolini in straight sets (6-2, 6-1), the Pole had already confided feeling a certain fatigue and being uncertain for the tournament planned in the German capital.

A strong comeback planned for July 1 at Wimbledon

As the world No. 1 will be neither in Berlin nor in Bad Homburg, where she withdrew last year, before her semi-final, she will therefore not be able to carry out her preparation. The Pole has recorded less good results on grass since the start of her career. A surface on which Swiatek has yet to win any title, on the WTA circuit. While waiting for Wimbledon (July 1 – 14) where she intends to come back strong, the Pole can concentrate on her recovery, she who only had 110 points to defend, before the start of the third Grand Slam of the year. Iga Swiatek remains very well established in her place as world No. 1, facing her first two pursuers, the American Coco Gauff and the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, kept at a very good distance.
