A beautiful tricolor harvest. Frenchman Sam Avezou, 23, won the combined climbing event on Sunday June 23 at the Budapest stage of the Olympic Qualifiers Series (OQS), at the same time pocketing his ticket for the Paris Olympic Games. He thus joins his teammate Paul Jenft, 21, qualified after the semi-finals on Saturday, thanks to all of his results in the qualifying tournaments.

Disappointment, however, for the young Mejdi Schalck, 20 years old, who despite his good results, saw his Olympic dreams disappear. In total, ten places were awarded to the first in the ranking which also included the results of a stage in Shanghai in mid-May. But with only two tickets per gender and per country, he also had to do better than his two teammates in the French team to win his place at Le Bourget this summer.

Good harvest of tickets for the French

On the girls’ side, Zélia Allez, another member of the Allez family, also qualified down to the wire on Saturday for the Olympics. She joins Oriane Bertone, already assured of being in Paris since last fall.

In the other climbing event, speed, Capucine Viglione and Manon Lebon also had a successful weekend in Budapest. The two tricolors won their ticket together thanks to their results in the semi-finals. They will accompany Bassa Mawem, winner of the European tournament in October

It is therefore almost a full box for France which will therefore have four representatives engaged in the combined event and three in speed in Paris. Seven athletes out of eight possible in total in the young discipline inaugurated in Tokyo.
