Injured in an ankle, Vincent Poirier will not play the 2024 Olympics with the French team

Injured in the left ankle on Friday during training, Vincent Poirier (30 years old, 2.13 m, 60 selections since 2017) is out of the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11), announced the French Basketball Federation on Saturday.

“Taken care of by the medical staff of the French team, the pivot of the Blues underwent tests on Saturday morning. These tests confirmed the need for a stoppage of a duration incompatible with the resumption of preparation and participation in the Olympic Games,” she wrote in a press release.

Vincent Poirier had already missed a major competition, last year when he was not called up to compete in the World Cup, in favor of Mathias Lessort. The recent Spanish champion with Real Madrid had since returned to Vincent Collet’s group and hoped to secure a place in the 12 for the Olympic Games.

There are now 16 players left for 12 places at the Olympics, including 5 pure interiors (Jaylen Hoard, Guerschon Yabusele, Rudy Gobert, Mathias Lessort and Victor Wembanyama) for, certainly, five places in theory.
