Institute Secures Semifinal Spot in National Basketball League with Victory Over Regatas Corrientes

Institute moves forward. As its short and successful history indicates, it is among the four best in the National Basketball League. In a packed Sandrín like on the big nights and that pushed, Lucas Victoriano’s team got rid of an uncomfortable Regatas Corrientes by 90-77, settled the quarterfinal series 3-2 and reached the semifinals .

Glory comes to the Olympic team of La Banda, who put together this campaign strongly to be among those at the top. From Sunday, they will see each other’s faces.

Instituto was not able to rediscover its best basketball, which led it to consecrate itself in the South American League. That high-level collective game, which when found, is lethal for the rival. But he left the irregularity behind by playing a huge second half, as he showed after winning his first international title, and took the Corrientes team ahead, who had dominated the first half of the game. They won the second half 50-34.

Getting into the semi-finals also allowed him to secure a place in the international cups in the next season.

Leandro Vildoza, with his drive, led the reaction after the break and received a standing ovation from the fans. “Vildoza, Vildoza…” they sang to him. The captain contributed 12 points, 7 assists, 4 steals and 3 rebounds. He was supported by Bautista Lugarini with 14 points and Nicolás Copello with 13. But the entire team put in a tremendous push to turn the match around and get into the semifinals.

The Institute party

Instituto did not have three-pointers at the beginning (1/8 in the fourth) and sought to counteract it with Javier Saiz in the paint. But it is not easy for the center to win near the rim. Regatas started more fluidly in the attack with Charles Thomas receiving near the rim and sharing the ball, and took an 11-7 lead in 4’30.

In a game that was played with a lot of nervousness, Gloria stood firm behind and tried to move the ball more and better and with two free kicks from Leandro Vildoza, they went ahead 15-14 with 1’24 left. But the visit, based on Andrés Jaime’s mastery of timing and scoring, took the first segment 21-16.

Faced with the dominance of Regatas, the Institute opposed surrender. He put his effort into trying to find game. Bryan Jefferson entered well, with two frees and a triple, he shortened it to 1:29-30 in almost 4 minutes. In addition, Mauro Cosolito made his first triple (in five attempts) and Albirrojo tied it at 32.

Thomas returned to the field and together with Jaime they could not be defended. The Corrientes, with continuous cuts towards the basket, were a headache for the local brand and they escaped again 39-32 with three minutes on the clock.

Victoriano’s team responded with their individuality, with conversions from Copello and Bautista Lugarini to go into halftime down 40-43.

The Institute put in the effort to stop the dominance of Regatas. He increased the pressure so that Jaime did not make his team’s attack comfortable. The Sandrín people caught on and in 3’20 he scored an 11-3 run to go on to win 51-46. He followed with two triples in a row, one from “capi” Vildoza and another from Hoover and extended the difference to 57-48.

He felt comfortable for the first time in the Gloria match and extended it to 67-53. Regatas, out of his game, pushed himself and tried to get back into the game with three-pointers and reduced it to 57-67 with 1’40 left in the quarter.

Copello, the hero of the fourth game, hit a triple and stopped the Corrientes’ momentum and Instituto won the third episode 70-59.

El Albirrojo did not let up on the intensity although on some occasions he needed to slow down and think a little more. He scored 16:80-64 in 4’20 against a Regatas team that began to feel the rigor of the series and Glory demands it. Better off, Instituto reached the closing and celebrated.
