Instituto Secures Hard-Fought Victory Over Olympic in National Basketball League Semifinal

Instituto was looking to La Banda to seal its pass to the final of the National Basketball League. Of course, the mission was not easy because in front of them was the needy Olympic team, who had no choice but to win to stay alive in this semifinal bracket. And in his home, Black, in two overtimes he came away with a hard-fought 107-101 victory, which allows him to stay alive in the competition.

The tie is now 2-1 for La Gloria and both teams will face each other again this Sunday, starting at 10 pm, at the Vicente Rosales stadium in La Banda.

Nicolas Romano was the top scorer with 37 points and nine rebounds. Pomolo scored 15 in the away game.

The first quarter was one of absolute parity, with inaccuracies from both teams and a performance from low to high. The partial closed 20-19 in favor of the local team. Nicolás Romano, with six points, and Jefferson with five were the top scorers for both teams.

In the second quarter, the action did not change much. The defense was tighter and each team played to make as few mistakes as possible. The parity continued to be the main factor and a partial in favor of the home team by 17-14 allowed them to close the first half four points ahead (37-33). Lugarini with 8 points, two rebounds and three assists was the outstanding player of the quarter for the visitors, while Romano continued to be the best player for the home team with 11 points and three rebounds.

In the third quarter, Instituto tried to turn things around, but was unable to score. It had a hard time finding the goal and its offense was not that accurate. However, after being nine down, it came close at the end and closed the third quarter losing by five (55-50). Lugarini was not sharp in the quarter and only scored one more point in the entire quarter.

Closed, that was the last chapter. That’s how the whole game went, but with Olympic always taking the lead. With the local knowing that there was no tomorrow, that a defeat would leave them out of the fight. But Instituto pressed and with a 79-79 score forced the definition in overtime.

And overtime could not have been any other way than as close as the entire game was. A triple by Vildoza at the end of extra time made it 91-all and forced a second overtime.

In the second overtime, the home team managed to control the game better and achieved its objective. They won by 107-101 and took the fourth game in the National League semi-final series.
