International Judo Tournament in Canet Attracts Over 900 Young Judokas from France and Abroad

More than 900 little judokas from France and abroad met on the tatamis in Canet.

Judo Canet 66 organized its international tournament for the third year at the Éric-Tabarly gymnasium. More than 800 judokas aged 6 to 10 competed on the tatamis all day long. They came from Clermont-Ferrand, from the entire Occitanie region, from southern Catalonia accompanied by their first supporters, their parents or their grandparents. To keep the children waiting between fights, the club had provided two enormous inflatable castles outside the gymnasium. Several fights were taking place simultaneously in the four corners of the tatami. The children had to weigh in before fighting, they then joined the tatami where they faced their opponent in a combative but friendly spirit under the control of a referee. The winners were called to the podium to receive their reward, cup and a small fun gift plus a Paris Olympics supporter kit offered by the municipality. The day ended with a big festive gala training with the participation of parents on the mat and nearly a hundred mini judokas aged 3 to 5 years old. The flawless organization of Judo Canet 66 was highlighted by club representatives, teachers, parents who congratulated Bruno and Kevin, the two teachers.

The success of this tournament completes a year full of results for the club which saw the number of licensees rise to a record level of 430 judokas aged 3 to 20. This figure makes Judo Canet 66 the largest club in the department and one of the five largest clubs in the Region. Furthermore, the club was recently awarded the gold label of the French Judo Federation, the highest distinction at the national level. It rewards the work accomplished by president Patrick Deagostini, teachers Bruno Douet and Kevin Caillot as well as the involvement of parents. For the start of the September school year, the club has opened registrations.
