Introducing Kur Kuath: The New Block Monster in Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga

Please fasten your seat belt and tighten your helmet!

The Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga is getting a new attraction. It was a rumor for a few days – now it’s official: Veolia Towers Hamburg have signed block monster Kur Kuath (25)!

The man from South Sudan comes from the Spanish second division champions Lleida and signed until 2026. After the final, the center (16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks) was named MVP in Spain.

Kuath (pronounced “Qu-Wess”) is “only” 2.08 meters tall. But with his mega wingspan of around 2.30 meters, he has what it takes to become the successor to Braunschweig’s block king Jilson Bango (25/going to Zaragoza).

“He plays with a lot of energy at both ends of the field and constantly puts pressure on the ring,” says Towers coach Benka Barloschky (36). “In addition, he impressed me in personal conversations.”

Kuath was born in Khartoum. His parents fled with him and his four siblings from the war-torn country, first to Egypt and later to the USA, where Kuath began a college career. Hamburg’s sports director Marvin Willoughby (46): “Kur has a very exciting package and a great inner drive.”

The signing of the best defender of the LEB Oro in addition to Benedikt Turudic (27/comes from Bonn) also means that Aleksander Dziewa (26/Poland) was apparently unstoppable after his strong season…

Phlandrous Fleming: Recommended for Bonn against his “ex”

The Telekom Baskets Bonn have also found what they were looking for in defense – albeit one size lower.

After Brian Fobbs (26) left for Sassari in the Italian first league, guard Phlandrous Fleming Jr. (25) is coming in as a replacement. The 1.95 meter tall man played for the French play-off team ESSM Le Portel last season. Curiously, his best game (18 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals) came in the win against “Bonn” – Paris Basketball, with former coach Tuomas Iisalo (41), TJ Shorts (26) and all of Bonn’s top performers from the previous year!

Baskets sports director Savo Milovic (38): “Phlandrous Fleming is another defensive specialist who always gives 110 percent on the field. He has shown in the very athletic French league that he can defend several positions.” And he was twice named defender of the year in college.

Ice-cold “Big Man” for Frankfurt

The newly promoted Frankfurt Skyliners are starting to fill the key positions for the project of avoiding relegation. The first new player, who has not yet had any experience in Germany, is “Big Man” Kamaka Hepa (24/contract until 2026).

Hepa comes from the 5,000-person town of Barrow in Alaska, the northernmost community in the USA, far beyond the Arctic Circle. And he dreamed of becoming the first Inuit in the NBA. But he was unable to make it into the New Orleans Pelicans’ farm team in the Summer League.

In Europe, Hepa last played for Latvian vice-team Rigas Zelli after the sudden death of his father. Coach Denis Wucherer (51): “He brings things with him that you cannot learn, but which are extremely good for the team and can be an important piece of the puzzle.”

Bamberg now with Locke

Bamberg’s new coach Anton Gavel (39) wants to start a new, successful era when he returns to his old place of work. To do this, he is building a completely new team.

The fourth quota spot goes to Noah Locke (25). The US guard from SZTE-Szedeák Szeged was the top scorer in his first year in Europe in the (second-tier) league in Hungary with 23.6 points per game.

Gavel: “Noah wants to take his game to a higher level and that’s why we wanted to bring him to Freak City and are now happy that he chose us. As with the other guys we have already signed, we expect them to show everything they can do here and to be ready to develop individually and then as a Bamberg team.”
