Bola.net – The Iraqi National Team continued to perform optimally to beat the Vietnam National Team with a score of 3-1. The two teams met on the final matchday of Group F of the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification Asia Zone, Wednesday 12 June 2024.
Iraq acted as hosts, serving Vietnam at the Basra International Stadium. This match actually didn’t mean anything, because a few hours earlier the Indonesian National Team managed to beat the Philippines.
So, even before competing, Vietnam already knew that they would not qualify for the third round. Iraq as group winner and Indonesia as runner-up are certain to qualify for the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asia Zone.
Even so, the match was still intense on the field. Iraq did not lower their level of play, still aiming for victory. Hussein Ali’s goal in the 12th minute made Iraq play comfortably for the remainder of the match.
Iraq then increased their lead in the second half through Ali Jasim’s goal in the 71st minute. Vietnam narrowed the gap through Pham Tuan Hai (84′), but Iraq then sealed the win through Aymen Hussein’s goal in injury time (90+2′).
This victory means that Iraq closed the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications with a perfect 6 matches and 6 wins, winning 18 points. Meanwhile, Vietnam finished in third place with only 6 points.
