Italian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Cuneo

An important, decisive event, which is the backdrop to the Paris Olympics. On July 5, 6 and 7, the Palazzetto dello Sport in Cuneo will be the stage for the Italian Absolute Championships in artistic gymnastics, male and female, a highly anticipated event that will see the best athletes of our country compete for the national title, in the all-around competition and in individual apparatus.

The event, organized by Cuneoginnastica, arrives just over seven months after the great organizational success of the Gold National Finals of women’s artistic gymnastics. This event, however, has an even greater importance: arriving less than a month before the Olympic Games which will be held on French soil, in Cuneo there will be the brightest blue stars who will participate in the Piedmontese event to win the national title, but also to do the general rehearsals in view of the five-circle dream.

Cuneogymnastics, chaired by Claudio Adinolfi and supported by local institutions and supported by many volunteers, once again enthusiastically welcomed the invitation to organize an event of such importance from the Italian Gymnastics Federation.

“For us at Cuneoginnastica it is a great honor to host a competition of this importance – says Adinolfi -. Bringing the best athletes in Italy to Cuneo will allow the public to witness challenges of the highest value. It will be a wonderful sight, also because many people from all over Italy will join the Cuneo residents. A result made possible thanks to the Federation and all the local institutions that have allowed the organization of this great event”.

The event promises to be particularly exciting and dynamic and will involve all the public who will fill the stands of the sports hall. Furthermore, to fully involve citizens, the organizing company will give free access to the red sector to all children registered and participating in the Cuneo Kids’ Summer who show up at the event wearing the official Kids’ Summer t-shirt.

THE WOMEN’S COMPETITIONS

Expected in the Granda province are the athletes of the National team such as Giorgia Villa, Alice D’Amato, Martina Maggio, Manila Esposito, Angela Andreoli and Elisa Iorio, all in the roster of the women’s Olympic team, who will give their best to earn a ticket to Paris. Unfortunately, due to a muscle problem, the beloved and eagerly awaited champion Vanessa Ferrari, Olympic silver medalist in Tokyo 2021 in the floor exercise, will not be present in Cuneo – and consequently not even at the Olympic Games – and she entrusted her great regret to social media: “During the test in view of the absolute next week, during the take-off of a jump, my calf gave way. With a month to go until the Olympics, there is no time to recover from a muscle injury. Although I have been fighting with various ailments since December, on a technical level I was very well. Unfortunately, however, the finish did not hold up.

I undertook this journey with the desire to fight to the end but also with the awareness that there could be this type of outcome, it’s part of the “game”. However, even though I have had many injuries in my career, you never get used to it and the blow is always strong, especially after three years of training and one month away from the final goal”. A deep disappointment for everyone, for the fans of this discipline and for the entire sports world that has made its closeness to the blue star felt with many messages and comments on social media in the last few hours.

But returning to the Italian event, the adrenaline and emotion are now palpable.

The Assoluti arrive two months after the Women’s European Championships in Rimini which took place at the beginning of May, where the Italian team achieved great satisfaction. Starting from the team competition, where Italy became continental champion thanks to the performances of Alice D’Amato, Manila Esposito, Elisa Iorio and Angela Andreoli (plus the support of Asia D’Amato on the match field, out due to injury) , which obtained a score of 164.162, leaving behind great nations such as the United Kingdom and France. And even at an individual level the tricolor was waved on the top step of the podium: thanks to Manila Esposito in the individual competition, capable of leaving all her opponents behind and winning the gold medal with 55.432 points, ahead of her compatriot Alice D’Amato (54,831 points). Manila Esposito, originally from Torre Annunziata, closed the Rimini event with a total of four gold medals: because in addition to winning the team competition and that of the general competition, she also defeated the competition in the beam (14.400) and in the body free (13,833). Gold and a great celebration also for the Genoese Alice D’Amato in the unsymmetrical bars, ahead of her with 14,600 points.

MEN’S RACES

In the men’s field, there is great anticipation for Sardinian Nicola Bartolini – world champion in floor exercise at the 2021 World Championships in Kitakyushu and European vice-champion in 2022 in Munich – who will be on the platform with his national teammates Yumin Abbadini, Lorenzo Minh Casali, Matteo Levantesi, Mario Macchiati and Marco Lodadio who, in recent years, have made many fans of this discipline dream and who, in Rimini, won the team bronze medal.

THE THEATER OF THE ABSOLUTES

The theater of the Italian National Artistic Gymnastics Championships is the Palazzetto dello Sport of Cuneo, a facility with over 4 thousand seats located in San Rocco Castagneretta. A special place for all local and national sport, already the scene of numerous gymnastics events in recent years, both artistic and rhythmic, thanks to the structural works requested by the local institutions.
