Italy Misses Out on Olympic Archery Team Event at Antalya World Cup

(ANSA) – ANTALYA, JUNE 20 – In Antalya it is time for the Archery World Cup, and after the day dedicated to the team preliminaries of the Olympic arch, the Italians Tatiana Andreoli, Lucilla Boari and Chiara Rebagliati missed the pass for the women’s team event at the Paris Games. The ‘stage’ on Turkish soil offered two up for grabs and Italdonne would have had to get a medal to climb the world rankings and try to gain one of the last two passes.

The Italians’ run started well with the victory over Indonesia 5-4 (25-24) in the shoot-off. The success allowed Italy to eliminate their direct opponent in the world ranking, but it was not enough to overtake the Indonesians because the Italian trio, despite having beaten a strong opponent like Taipei 5-3 in the round of 16, then stopped in the quarterfinals with the defeat against Japan 5-1. No semi-final and no chance of winning a medal that would have guaranteed a higher score in the World Ranking and the hope of taking the team to Paris.

Hope also faded for Japan who were below Italy in the ranking and stopped in the final for the bronze, won against India 6-0, but not enough to overtake Indonesia and above all India in the ranking. These are the last two teams to have purchased the ticket for France, awaiting the official announcement by World Archery.

Italy will therefore take the field in the Olympic competitions at the Esplanade des Invalides with four starters: the men’s trio who will compete in the team event and with three elements in the individual event, an athlete in the individual women’s event and with a couple in the mixed event team.
