Italy’s Mixed Team Azzurri Falls Short in Bronze Medal Challenge Against Czech Republic

In the mixed team the Azzurri stopped in front of the Czech Republic in the challenge for the bronze 144-128. Dalia Dameno and Paolo Tonon were unable to immediately keep up with the pace of their opponents Pultar Musilova and Drahoninsky with the first set ending 35-26 which already significantly influenced the match. The Azzurri win the next set 35-32, but are unable to get back into the game because the pair from the Czech Republic close the score with two more successes 37-35 and 40-32.

The two couples (male and female) also took to the field for the gold finals in events that are not considered for the medal table for Nations. In both cases the challenge was with China, in the men’s Maurizio Panella and Paolo Tonon lost 147-132 against Zhang and Han leaving all the sets to their opponents (38-33, 35-30, 35-34, 39-35), in the women’s Dalia Dameno and Asia Pellizzari fought but finally capitulated 132-130 against Chen and Lui. The Italians started better (33-29) but were overturned in the second set (33-25), it was the set that decided the match because in the other two Italy was unable to recover (37-37 and 35-33).
