J.J. Redick named new coach of LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ Lakers squad

Redick, 39, succeeds Darvin Ham on the bench of LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ team. Ham joined the Lakers in the summer of 2022 and paid the price for the elimination of the ‘Purple & Gold’ in the first round of the playoffs against Denver.

Former player of Orlando, Milwaukee, the Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia, New Orleans and Dallas, Redick ended his career in 2021. Converted as a consultant for American television, the former back, known for his three-point accuracy, has no experience in the NBA either as an assistant or head coach.

Redick becomes the 29th coach in franchise history, the 25th in the Los Angeles era since the move from Minneapolis in 1960.

The Lakers are the second most successful franchise in NBA history with 17 titles. They were overtaken by Boston, which won its 18th title this week after beating Dallas in the Finals.
