James Harden Signs Two-Year, $70 Million Contract with Los Angeles Clippers

Veteran James Harden seems to enjoy playing for the Los Angeles Clippers since he has just agreed to a two-year contract.

The deal will bring him a total sum of $70 million. The second year of the contract would however be an option for the player.

The news was reported by The Athletic first.

Harden, a Los Angeles native, expressed several times during the season how happy he was to play at home.

The Clippers and Harden wasted no time in reaching an agreement as Paul George’s future with the team remains uncertain.

Harden, who turns 35 in August, has played 72 games this season with the Clippers. He maintained averages of 16.6 points and 8.5 assists per game.

The Clippers are his fifth career team. He began his NBA career in Oklahoma City for three seasons before playing in Houston, Brooklyn and Philadelphia.

The Clippers secured Harden’s services in late October. After a slow start to the season, the point guard helped the Clippers bounce back from a 3-7 start to briefly find themselves atop the West standings with a 34-15 record in early February.

Harden forced a trade to Los Angeles after a very public argument with Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey over his contract situation last summer. It was Harden’s third address change in less than three years following his long career with the Rockets, where he was an MVP and helped revolutionize the way offense is played in the NBA .
