The German tennis player Jan-Lennard Struff defeated Arthur Rinderknech at the Boss Open in Stuttgart and is now in the quarterfinals.

Tennis pro Jan-Lennard Struff has also won his second match of the grass season. At the ATP tournament in Stuttgart, he beat Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech 6:4, 7:6 (7:0) in the round of 16 and remains the last German in the tournament. The Germans Dominik Koepfer and Yannick Hanfmann had already failed in the round of 16.

In his round of 16 match, he got off to a good start on his own serve. Struff held his service games confidently and was always ahead. Rinderknech was unable to threaten the German number two in his service games for a long time – until 5:4. The Munich tournament winner then took advantage of a brief weak phase on Rinderknech’s part. Struff got into the rallies better with his returns and secured the first set with his fifth set point.

Struff also served strongly in the second set. He clearly dominated the tiebreak and converted his first match point after 79 minutes.

“It was a tough match, but also a good match,” said the last remaining German singles participant. He feels very good at the moment and is looking forward to playing in Germany. “A win like that in Munich obviously helps,” said Struff, who celebrated his first ATP title there on clay in April. Struff now needs three more wins to win the title at the Weissenhof in Stuttgart.

Struff meets Brandon Nakashim in the quarterfinals

In the quarterfinals, Struff, who is the German number one in the tournament after the last-minute cancellation of French Open finalist Alexander Zverev, will face the American Brandon Nakashima. Last year, Struff made it to the final, but lost to Francis Tiafoe. The American is also in the quarterfinals. The duel could then be repeated in the semifinals.

Struff is preparing for Wimbledon at the Stuttgart grass court tournament with prize money of 812,235 euros. The tournament begins on July 1st in London.
