The Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner debuted as No. 1 in the world, winning the title at the ATP 500 in Halle (Germany), after defeating the Polish Hubert Hurkacz (9th) in the final.

Sinner showed off his hierarchy against Hurkacz, one of the toughest players on this surface, whom he beat 7-6 (8) and 7-6 (2) in a match where the power of both of their blows prevailed, that they could not break the serve on any occasion.

On his way to the title, the Italian defeated the Dutch Tallon Griekspoor, the Hungarian Fabián Maroszán, the German Jan-Lennard Struff and the Chinese Zhang Zhizhen.

Sinner, who became No. 1 in the world after Roland Garros, a tournament in which he reached the semifinals, at only 22 years old he obtained his fourteenth title as a professional and the fourth of the year (he had already won the Australian Open, the ATP 500 in Rotterdam and the Masters 1000 in Miami).

Hurkacz, for his part, was unable to win the ninth title of his career, but he secured a climb to seventh place (the best of his career). And he was the protagonist of a very nice play that Sinner did not hesitate to applaud:

Tommy Paul, the other champion of the weekend

The American Tommy Paul (13th) won the Queen’s ATP 500 after beating the Italian Lorenzo Musetti (30th) in the final by 6-1 and 7-6(8).

This title, which was the third in his career, will allow Paul to climb one position in the ranking. (NA).
