Jannik Sinner is in the quarterfinals of the grass court tournament in Halle (Germany). A real challenge awaits the world number 1 on Friday.

Jan-Lennard Struff caused a surprise on Thursday. The 34-year-old from Warstein won his round of 16 match against Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6:4, 6:4 at the Terra Wortmann Open, thus setting up a quarter-final duel with Jannik Sinner. The South Tyrolean had previously defeated Hungarian Fabian Marozsan 6:4, 6:7 (4:7), 6:3.

The match between Sinner and Struff is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday. The 22-year-old from Pustertal and the experienced German have met twice so far. Sinner had the upper hand both times. But this is the first time Sinner and Struff will play against each other on grass.

The world number 41 is currently very confident. Exactly two months ago, Struff won his long-awaited first ATP title in Munich (on clay). The grass tournament in Halle is a special occasion for him. After all, his birthplace in North Rhine-Westphalia is only an hour’s drive from Halle. The spectators will therefore be on the side of the local hero. But Sinner is very familiar with such situations.
