Jaylen Brown: All the adversities of the past have made us stronger, we can win again

The Boston Celtics celebrated their long-awaited 18th NBA title with the city last Friday, the first for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The former California winger was also elected MVP of the Finals win against the Dallas Mavericks.

“All year we’ve been hearing about the Celtics of the past,” Brown told The Athletic. “For the last six to eight months we have heard nothing other than the various defects we have had in the past, which prevented us from reaching the ring. But this is a new team, we learned from those experiences…..All the adversities made us stronger, tougher”

It’s been evident throughout the season. Since the beginning of the regular season we have changed pace, made all the necessary sacrifices. We played at a high level on both ends of the pitch. We didn’t skip any steps. And this is the result”.

Joe Mazzulla, the coach of the Celtics, responded this way when asked if he cared that anyone gave him little credit for his success because of all the talent on the roster.

“I think coaching is also understanding that you can’t win without the players…I really don’t care about these things. I just want to win. I want to do it with good people, and here we have the opportunity to do it.”

Since his arrival in Boston, Brown has played in 6 Eastern Conference finals and two NBA finals before putting his first ring on his finger. Maybe this is why he hasn’t guaranteed another one for next season, but he is convinced that the Celtics can do it.

“We have the opportunity to do it, we can win again, certainly our window to compete will still last…. We will take one day at a time…. We absolutely need to make sure we stay healthy. But we will enjoy the summer, enjoy the moment and then get back to work for next year.”
