Jeff Van Gundy Joins Los Angeles Clippers Coaching Staff, Bringing Wealth of Experience

The Los Angeles Clippers are bringing a wealth of experience into their coaching staff. Jeff Van Gundy, a former TV analyst and NBA coach, is joining Ty Lue’s side.

As Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports, Jeff Van Gundy will soon be introduced as the new assistant coach of the Los Angeles Clippers. This will allow the Clippers to bring experience to the team in order to attack again next season.

Van Gundy has worked as a TV analyst for ESPN for the past 16 years, after previously working as an NBA coach.

The younger brother of Stan Van Gundy, also a former coach and TV analyst, coached the New York Knicks for seven years and then the Houston Rockets. He reached the NBA Finals with the Knicks in 1999. In the finals they lost to the San Antonio Spurs and Tim Duncan.

In 2004, he also trained his new head coach at the LA Clippers, Ty Lue, in Houston. That’s where their connection comes from.

The California franchise needs additional expertise. Although the team has a strong lineup, they have never managed a deep playoff run in the past two years. They have always been eliminated in the first or second round.

It is unlikely that Van Gundy can change this on his own, especially since the poor results were mostly due to injuries. This year, LA could hardly rely on their best player, Kawhi Leonard. He only played four games in the last two postseasons due to injuries.
