Jonquière Voyageurs Advance to Semi-Finals of LBJEQ Mid-Season Tournament with 10-7 Victory

With a 10-7 victory in eight innings against the Laval Pirates on Sunday afternoon, the Jonquière Voyageurs advance to the semi-finals of the Quebec Junior Elite Baseball League (LBJEQ) mid-season tournament.

This game against the Granby Guerriers, scheduled after another semi-final, will be their third of the day. If Jonquière reaches the final, the team will have taken part in four seven-inning regulation games in a single day. A home run contest will take place before the final duel.

The Voyageurs defeated Laval twice on Sunday at Henri-Casault Park in Charlesbourg.

The first game had started the day before in Lasalle. Rain had ended the game on Saturday afternoon when the score was 3 to 1 in favour of Jonquière in the third inning. The Voyageurs finally won by a score of 7 to 3.

In the second game, the Voyageurs tied the game in the seventh inning with three runs, then did it again the following inning.

As it is a double elimination tournament, Jonquière had to defeat Laval twice.

The tournament consisted of four divisions, at four different locations, with the champions of a mini-round robin tournament then facing off in the semifinals in Charlesbourg. The tournament began Thursday.

The Jonquière Voyageurs were grouped with the JR AA Stars from the Montreal region, the Laval Pirates and the Lasalle Cardinals, at the latter’s home.

On Saturday, the Voyageurs eliminated the Cardinals with an 8-6 victory to earn the right to face the Pirates.

The results of the tournament games do not count towards the general standings of the LBJEQ regular season.
