Jorge Martin received bad news ahead of his action at the 2024 Dutch MotoGP. The Pramac rider had to drop three starting positions due to a penalty. Ouch!

The three-grid penalty was given after Martin’s actions in the MotoGP Dutch Q2 Qualifying Session at the TT Assen Circuit, Saturday (6/29/2024). Martin was considered to have slowed down his motorbike at the second and third corners, thus disrupting the speed of another racer, namely Raul Fernandez.

“Because this is the first violation, the appropriate penalty given in this case is three places down the grid,” said the official MotoGP statement.

This penalty made Martin even more frustrated because he was actually in a big group when Q2 started. Moreover, before the incident, Martin was also harassed by other racers.

With this penalty, Martin has a tough task to be able to accelerate from fifth position at the start, Sunday (30/6) evening WIB. Moreover, Martin’s lead at the top of the MotoGP standings was cut to 15 points after Ducati world champion Francesco Bagnaia won the sprint race yesterday.

Bagnaia still holds pole position, but Martin’s position is now occupied by Maverick Vinales and Alex Marquez is in third place. Apart from Martin, Aleix Espargaro rose two places to fourth place.

The 2024 Assen MotoGP will be held over 26 laps on a 4.5 kilometer circuit.
