Judo Villefranche Celebrates End-of-Year Success and Achievements

There were lots of people on Saturday at the Robert-Fabre gymnasium dojo at Tricot. On and around the tatami mats. Judo-Villefranche organized its end-of-year day there. For the children, it was a day of celebration. But they also had a little pressure since they had to show to the juries what they had learned throughout the year, and this under the watchful eye of their parents and grandparents. At the end of their visit, they were promised a new color of belt, synonymous with progress in their practice of judo.

The presentation of the belts took place after a mass training, bringing together all the club’s members, young and old. And there are many of them, since Judo Villefranche ended the year with 238 licensees (close to the record of 242 licenses for the 2013-2014 season). Judokas from 5 to… 72 years old, performing well on the mat for those who compete. Highlight of the sporting results, the new title of European veteran champion of Lætitia Fenelle. Also noteworthy is the selection for the French junior championships of Océane Marty as well as the participation at the highest level of the youngest children of Célène Fernandez and Nolan Alet.

The season was also marked by the commitment of training to the cadet team championship. A first for Judo Villefranche. It is all the more remarkable as this team was only made up of judokas trained at the club: Yaël Chazottes, Gianni Allard, Gaspard Pouzoulet, Jérémie Berton, Milan Thomas, Firmin Allemand and Jules Alibert. “It is an immense pride, as a coach, to field a team which fully embodies the values of our club. All these judokas were trained in Villefranche,” underlined Vincent Latière, club teacher for seven years, in honoring his young protégés.

Training is a common thread in the philosophy of Judo Villefranche. Which translates into a remarkable number of black belts. The latest, that of Kevin Deviot. The 86th. A figure that will soon increase further.

The general assembly closed this beautiful day. The emphasis was placed by the president, Guy Labro, on the significant number of extra-sporting activities organized by the club office. They are essential to ensure financial balance. The representatives of the municipality, Tristan Delpérié and Jacques Andurand, noted the vitality of Judo Villefranche and the excellent state of mind maintained. To conclude, a debate was opened on solutions to explore to ensure the development of the city’s clubs.
