Unemployed football manager Jürgen Klopp amuses millions worldwide
Wearing a crimson cowboy hat at a Taylor Swift concert, standing alongside Boris Becker during the Euro opening match in an arena: Jürgen Klopp really knows how to make the most of his free time after Liverpool FC. And his adventures have been quite popular with fans.
As his 60th birthday approaches, Klopp is growing on Instagram fame, with over 4.1 million followers after just 21 posts. Although he no longer works for the club, his life post-Liverpool FC is not monotonous, as his fans attest.
An evening with Taylor Swift, another with Boris Becker. This has been everyday life for Klopp since he left Liverpool FC. “Three legends and me! Spending time with old friends was absolute fun,” Klopp wrote under a photo. The picture showed him standing next to tennis pioneer Becker, coach David Wagner and advisor Marc Kosicke. They also celebrated his 57th birthday together on a recent Sunday.
Becker and Klopp share a unique bond. They met nine years ago at Wimbledon, where Ulla organized the meeting. “I have always been an enthusiastic fan of his and we had an unforgettable evening at Wimbledon. Our wavelengths matched and we had trouble stopping,” Klopp told the “Bild” newspaper. They remain in touch to this day, even in Becker’s most difficult times. When Becker was convicted of bankruptcy offenses in England in 2022, Klopp stayed in touch and inspired him with words of encouragement.
A life without football? Impossible!
Klopp returned to Anfield Road, where he has been since leaving, but it was no longer his former team that played there, but Taylor Swift. “I’ve officially become a Swiftie,” Klopp declared after the concert, wearing a pink cowboy hat.
He had his hair cut especially for the concert and attended with his wife Ulla. A photo showed them in the audience during the 100th show of the Eras Tour – Ulla was wearing a pink cowboy hat, Klopp a black baseball cap.
Besides football, there are other excitements for Jürgen Klopp. Last Friday he visited a Munich beer garden, and at the weekend he watched the Euro opening match between Germany and Scotland at the Allianz Arena.
Rumours about a role at Red Bull
The current situation at his former team Borussia Dortmund caught his attention. Nuri Sahin took over as his eighth successor, and Klopp gave his approval. “Nuri may be young, 35 years old, but so was I. I have no doubt that, after having had an extraordinary career as a player, he will be transformed into an extraordinary coach,” Klopp told “Bild am Sonntag”.
As for his own future, Klopp remains calm. His next steps after Liverpool remain uncertain. The latest rumours point to a possible role at Red Bull. Possibly, since the company recently sold shares in Leeds United, speculation about Klopp as coach there is as likely as a dry English summer.
One thing is certain: Klopp’s next stop is Mallorca. There he owns a finca and balances rest with professional commitments. A lottery offers a private TV evening with Klopp, where you can watch the European Championship quarter-finals with him on July 6th. Theoretically, it could also be a game with German participation, but only if the German team finishes second in Group A and wins its round of 16 match.
