Kai Havertz: “Fullness is important for us. But so am I”

If he scores, the doubters are silent. If he doesn’t, criticism comes pouring in: striker Kai Havertz about his style of play, which is too complicated for the simple soul of fans, and a DFB team that has finally found itself.

Herr HavertzWe are sitting at the entrance gate to the home ground, the base camp of the German national team. Very little gets through to the outside world from there. What kind of world have you just come from?
When you enter the grounds, you feel a special energy. Everyone there is working for the European title, everyone is full of confidence. There is a spirit that I have never experienced before in the national team.

How does this manifest itself?
In our free time, no one sits alone in their room. We play together, spend time in the Player’s Lounge, a kind of café. Although we have been seeing each other every day for almost a month, there is no cabin fever. I take that as a very good sign.
