Kansas City Chiefs Defensive Lineman BJ Thompson Released from Hospital After Cardiac Arrest

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman BJ Thompson has been released from the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest last week, his agent told NFL Network Monday evening.

Thompson suffered seizures and went into cardiac arrest Thursday while attending a special teams meeting at the Chiefs practice facility. Thompson was sedated and on life support Thursday and throughout the night. He regained consciousness on Friday and began breathing on his own again.

Chiefs vice president of sports medicine and performance Rick Burkholder said Friday that kicker Harrison Butker left Thursday’s game to notify the team’s medical staff. Burkholder added that Thompson was treated by therapists and a club doctor until firefighters arrived.

Thompson was in cardiac arrest for a minute to a minute and a half before being transported to a local hospital.

Thompson was drafted in the 5th round by the Chiefs in 2023. He played in 1 game in his 1st season, recording 2 tackles.
