Kateřina Siniaková: From Roland Garros Triumph to Defending Olympic Gold

Since Sunday, the eight-time Grand Slam champion, tennis player Kateřina Siniaková has brought the winning trophy from Roland Garros to Prostějov. The cities that the Olympic champion represents thanks to her membership of the local tennis club TK Agrofert.

“I think that every trophy is something unique. I enjoyed the tournament in Paris a lot,” Siniaková revealed her impressions.

The triumph of a hastily assembled couple

Due to injuries to her previous partners Storm Hunter and then Taylor Townsend, Kateřina Siniaková had to look for a third teammate this year before Paris. The choice fell on the talented American Coco Gauff.

“It was a bit of a rollercoaster. I was arranged with someone completely different. Coco and I had never played together before. In addition, we both played singles, that’s why we only played each other in the first match,” the Czech tennis player described the seed of the later triumph.

Rising star is a great girl

“We gradually got to know each other more. I think that Coco is a great player, but also a girl. She is holding her ground for what she has already achieved and what is still waiting for her,” the Olympic champion from Tokyo praised her partner.

The celebration was a team one. “There are no official obligations for the doubles winner. Both teams, mine and Coco’s, got together and celebrated together,” Siniaková added.

The Czech champion is now waiting for the transition to grass. “I’ll only stay at home for two days and I’m going to Berlin. After that I’ll have Hamburg and then Wimbledon,” Siniaková smiles.

The Olympics are far away

One of the best women’s doubles in history, she is also preparing to defend her Olympic gold. “It’s still a long way off. I still have a lot of difficult matches and tournaments ahead of me. If I succeed at the Olympics, it would be a great experience,” concludes the Czech representative.
