A great afternoon of sport characterized the second stage of the Gran Prix delle Valli di Sondrio, thanks to the mountain running race “Corri tra le selve”, organized by 2002 Marathon Club and Polisportiva Colorina. With 300 athletes taking part in youth and absolute competitions, the event also awarded individual provincial mountain running master titles.
The undisputed protagonists of the day were the Kenyans of Run2gether in the 9 km up&down test. Yegon Robert Kiplangat dominated the competition, setting a new record with a time of 35’50”, improving the previous one by almost two minutes. At the GPM, Kiplangat already had a 37-second lead over teammate Kenduiywo Shadrack Wipkurui, who came second with 38’09”, followed by Francesco Bongio (La Recastello Radici Group) from Morbegna in 38’35”. The men’s top five was completed by Tommaso Caneva (GP Talamona, 40’47”) and Francesco Della Torre (La Recastello, 40’57”).
In the women’s race, Elisa Sortini (Atl. Alta Valtellina) confirmed her excellent form, setting a new downhill record with 15’53” and finishing the race in 42’18”, just 4 seconds from her personal best. Alice Gaggi (La Recastello Radici Group) took second place with 45’12”, while the podium was completed by her teammates Giulia Compagnoni (45’28”), Elisa Compagnoni (45’42”) and Gaia Bertolini ( 48’10”).
Particular attention was paid to the joelettes, pulled by Dappertutto volunteers, who participated by covering the initial and final part of the race.
