The KNVB has blocked hundreds of tickets for practice matches for the Dutch team. These are tickets for which the football association says it is certain that they are being resold through unofficial sales channels for higher amounts. Most tickets have been resold illegally via the ticket platform Viagogo.
The blocked tickets were for the matches that the Dutch national team will play against Canada and Iceland in the coming week. About 200 tickets are blocked per match and the KNVB expects this number to increase.
Buy again
Such a blocked ticket will become available again at the KNVB. “People who currently have such a ticket can therefore contact the KNVB and buy the ticket again for the original price,” says a spokesperson for the KNVB. “That costs money and is very annoying, but people can then go to the seller to ask for their money back.”
If people only find out at the stadium that their ticket has been blocked, they can immediately buy it again legally from the KNVB. Even in that case, they must subsequently request their money back from the unofficial sales channel.
The KNVB has experience that things often go well and people get their money back, but it is not standard certainty.
Warned
The KNVB warns against this type of practice. When purchasing a ticket for a match, the buyer agrees to the condition that tickets may only be transferred in the private sphere (family, friends, colleagues), for the original purchase price.
If tickets are resold outside the conditions, they can be blocked and the initial buyer can receive a stadium ban for eighteen months plus a fine of up to 450 euros.
It is not the first time that the KNVB has blocked tickets. “We have colleagues here who look up whether tickets are being resold, we can find that very easily,” said the spokesperson. It mainly happens during important and popular matches.
