Koeman changes the Dutch team in three places for the match against Austria

National coach Ronald Koeman is making various changes to the line-up of the Dutch national team, it was officially announced on Tuesday afternoon. There are starting places for Lutsharel Geertruida, Donyell Malen and Joey Veerman, players who were still on the bench against France on Friday. The meeting with Austria in Berlin starts at 6:00 PM.

Denzel Dumfries, Jeremie Frimpong and Xavi Simons, who kicked off against France, are passed by Koeman. Tijjani Reijnders moves up to number 10 with the Dutch national team for the final group match against Austria, which is at the expense of Simons’ starting spot.

Johan Derksen reported on Monday evening in Today Inside that Dumfries is not fully fit and that Geertruida will take his place in the right back position. It now appears that Dumfries will indeed not start, although it is still unknown whether this has to do with an injury to the Inter player.

Line-up

Bart Verbruggen is Koeman’s unsurprising choice under the bar. The goalie sees the four-man defense consisting of Geertruida, Stefan de Vrij, Virgil van Dijk and Nathan Aké. The midfield is formed by Jerdy Schouten, Veerman and Tijjani Reijnders as number 10. Malen, Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo are the attackers.

The Dutch national team received excellent news on Monday. Because Albania was unable to beat Spain (0-1), the Dutch team is now assured of a place in the eighth finals. Although qualification did not come out of the blue, Koeman’s goal against Austria is clear: to win.

The Dutch want to become group winners and for this they currently have slightly better credentials than France, which also has a goal difference of +1, but is below the Dutch because of the number of goals scored (1 to 2).

“We are just trying to be first in the group. That is what we want. It will be a tough match, because Austria is certainly not to be underestimated. We will have to be very good and concentrated in our ball possession,” Koeman praised Austria.

One of the reasons that Koeman is wary of the Alpine country is the famous ‘Red Bull school’, which national coach Ralf Rangnick is a great fan of. “The intensity is very high, but also risky at times. You have to find a good balance, I think. But every Austria match is fun to watch.”

Austria is not yet completely sure of the eighth finals, but things will have to go crazy if Rangnick’s men do not qualify for that. Only a big defeat against the Dutch team can prevent that. Gernot Trauner is not present, by the way. The Feyenoord captain suffered a groin injury in the match against Poland (1-3 win).

Dutch national team line-up: Verbruggen; Geertruida, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Aké; Schouten, Reijnders, Veerman; Malen, Memphis, Gakpo

Opstelling Oostenrijk: Pentz; Posch, Wöber, Lienhart, Wimmer; Seiwald, Prass; Grillitsch, Schmid, Sabitzer; Arnautovic
