Konstantin Distel Wins Bronze at U18 European Championships in Sofia

Constantine Distel from JC 66 Bottrop won a bronze medal in the 81 kg class on the third day of the U18 European Championships in Sofia (Bulgaria). In the “small final”, the 16-year-old German champion beat Ivano Djinkic from Bosnia and Herzegovina. After around three minutes of fighting, Djinkic gave up in a hold. Konstantin Distel repeated his success from the previous year and won his second European Championship medal.

In the preliminary round, Konstantin Distel won early against Maxim Brinzi from Moldova and Tajus Babaicenko from Lithuania. In the quarterfinals, he lost to Abu-Bakr Kantaev (AIN) by two wazaari scores. After a consolation round win against Leonardo Copat from Italy, he was in the fight for bronze.

Jan Libuda from Sportunion Annen (up to 90 kg) won his opening fight against Ivan Konoval from Spain and was eliminated from the competition in the second round against Kevin Gordon from Great Britain.

The European Championships will continue on Sunday with the mixed team competition. The German team will face Bulgaria in the second round.
