Kristaps Porzingis Undergoes Surgery on Tibialis Tendon: Expected Return in Five to Six Months

NBA champion Kristaps Porzingis has had surgery on his tibialis tendon and is expected to return to the court in “five to six months,” the Celtics announced Thursday.

The Latvian giant was sidelined for more than a month during the playoffs due to a calf injury and returned just in time for the start of the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.

However, Porzingis later missed Games 3 and 4 of the Finals with a tibial tendon injury. In the fifth and final game he returned to play although his body was at its limit (16 minutes with 5 points and a rebound).

“There was an added risk, but I didn’t care. It was like, ‘I’m going to give it my all and then I’ll fix it if I need to,'” he told ESPN about the danger of playing in the Finals again despite the fact that it was obvious that he was very physically impaired.

With Porzingis as a key piece throughout the season, the Celtics won their 18th NBA ring this year, which allowed them to break the tie with their eternal rivals: the Los Angeles Lakers (17).
