Sitting on grass mats and getting close to nature, Kunming’s 88 shared green spaces are open to citizens and tourists

Open green space

Following the announcement of the first batch of 41 open and shared green spaces in 2023, Kunming will continue to launch a new batch of 47 open and shared green spaces to citizens and tourists this year, covering an area of about 265,000 square meters. Open and shared park green spaces can be used for morning and evening exercises, tent building, parent-child play, badminton, etc., allowing citizens and tourists to enjoy the joy of “zero-distance” contact with nature.

In recent years, Kunming City has actively explored the demarcation of open and shared areas in lawns, forest spaces, vacant land and other areas of urban parks. It has launched two batches of open and shared green spaces, and continuously improved supporting facilities, improved service and governance levels, and better met the new needs and expectations of citizens and tourists to get close to nature, relax and have fun, and exercise and fitness, making sitting on the grass a pleasant experience and making the green accessible, appreciable and enjoyable.

“The opening of a new batch of shared green spaces not only expands the city’s ‘green content’, but also makes the layout of park green spaces more balanced.” A relevant person in charge of the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Greening said that now each county and district has at least two open shared park green spaces, making the beautiful blueprint of “seeing greenery when opening the window and seeing a garden when going out” a reality.

After the park green space is opened, how to ensure the growth of green space plants, control the flow of visitors and provide convenient services? It is reported that the urban park green space will carry out “rotational system” management and maintenance, that is, according to the growth cycle and characteristics of plants, the open and shared areas of lawns will be managed in a rotational system. At the same time, seats, sales points, convenient clothes hangers, lockers and trash cans will be reasonably configured in the open and shared areas, and public toilets will be configured within a reasonable range. Some open and shared areas will also add health trails, sports and fitness facilities, children’s play sand pits and swings and other facilities to meet the people’s new needs and expectations for leisure, recreation, sports and fitness.
